Using TOPSIS method,the results show that the overall level of natural science research output of public undergraduate universities is low in the central China,and there is a certain gap between them. Then,using Sys - GMM method,the results show that the contribution of natural science research and development personnel and scientific and technological funds to scientific research output is not high as a whole,and the contribution of the former is lower than that of the latter. As far as the overall contribution of sci- entific research investment is concerned,the situation of Hubei Province is the best,the others are Hunan,Anhui,Henan,Jiangxi and Shanxi Province in turn; the situation of public undergraduate universities of science and technology is the best,the others are public undergraduate universities of medicine,agriculture and forestry,comprehensive,normal,finance and economics,and other public un- dergraduate universities in turn; the situation of double first - class universities is the best,while the situation of non - double first - class ordinary first level universities is the second,the performance of non - double first - class ordinary secondary level colleges is not good.
