The outstanding feature of the construction of traditional liberal arts is the emphasis on the division of disciplines,which is based on the internal logical structure of the subject knowledge and the logic self - consistency of the subject knowledge system. Its research tendency of separating the subject structure and splitting the mindsetbrings many challenges to the development of traditional liberal arts. As a research paradigm,“Engaged Scholarship”advocates to respond to and solve complex problems in local practice as the logical starting point,and maintain interaction and cooperation with practitioners,multidisciplinary practitioners,and policy makers in the research process to jointly produce high - quality local knowledge system. The construction of the new liberal arts can appropri- ately draw on the paradigm of“Engaged Scholarship”,which could help liberal artsexplore new growth points through interdisciplinary, improve academic efficiency and rebuild the publicity of liberal arts academics,and focus on the Chinese context to strengthen the local awareness of liberal arts research.
