Comparing the university ecosystem to the pond ecosystem,this paper proposes the “Pond Model”and “Fishing Rules”. Twelve world university rankings and Chinese university rankings are selected to be analyzed from the two dimensions of the “differentiation”and“sensitivity”,taking the analysis of the observing points the university ranking as the core. This paper puts for- ward suggestions for Chinese university evaluation system: the universities rankings should stick to four principles: strengthen the pub- lic of openness and abide by the evaluation principle of fairness and justice. The universities rankings should be used as a reference for university construction rather than as a navigation mark,and overcome the utilitarian level. The universities rankings should strictly control the concept of direction and strengthen the effective evaluation of talents cultivation and social benefits,and information technol- ogy should be applied to means of the evaluation and bravely break through the times.
